Bahamas [14 Sig Regt Det] in 1970 written by Colin Ogilvie
I was one of the lucky ones to be sent from 30 Sig Regt., with a detment from 14 Sig Regt to Nassau in the Bahamas. We flew by Hercules stopping overnight in Gander Newfoundland, on our route to the Bahamas. Whilst there we lived in tents pitch next to a Sports Centre, where we watched for the first time the game of Baseball played by local kids. When we were not on duty we could be found on the beach or in one of the many bars, sometimes even going to the Casino on Paradise Island. But like all good things it came time for some to go home, while some moved into a Hotel on Bay St for a few more weeks of sun. I have a B/W Photo of the lads on the beach, will gladly E.Mail a copy if requested. |
